Most of us do really understand that looking for a new job, networking is important and give great value. However, difference in definition of what networking really means leads into confusion. Some experts have published many tips and suggestions, but indeed still there are many people think it is difficult to get a job. What happen actually? If it happens on you, why don't you try to avoid some mistakes explained below? It is a bit common to send e-mails, cover letter or CV to people you do not know. When they get your e-mails, they do not know you and so why they should care about. This approach is a big wasting time. Targeted emails or letters will have a different story and probably best left for a separate blog. Moreover, never add anyone you can find to your linked in. usual thing happens after it is you will never be able to contact that person again. Then, stop applying to all the ads you can find. Since it means you are not focus to get the job relates to your ability. It will make you tired and frustrated. Relying on recruitment agencies or headhunters is not a choice also since they cannot find you a job mostly. Their CV database is huge and unfortunately you are a number to them and they will only contact you if you happen to fit one of their roles. Recent research shows that using the internet as a way to look for a job is at the very most 10% effective, mailing out resumes to employers at random is usually 7% effective, answering job ads you see in the press, trade journals etc are also around 7% to 24% effective at most, and using search firms, recruitment agencies is 5-28% effective. If you are looking for a new job then please do not spend all of the hours in a day doing the above. Be smart in using your time, talking to people, meeting and getting to know them properly. And of course, use your network wisely. |
